JORDAN TAWNELL MONKHOUSE

a little about me..
"Jordan’s love of good food hailed from his childhood where he grew up on a family farm.
Jordan recalls memories of sitting at the family home kitchen bench watching his mother Fiona cook, particularly her signature chicken, leek and mushroom pie.
which quickly became a much loved family staple."
His desire to become a chef came at a young age, and Jordan pursued a cooking apprenticeship at fourteen.
“I was already determined and self-sufficient, over the next 3 years I would be taught my trade, taught how to cook, how to organise and how to love what I do! It was exciting and very hard but also very rewarding.”
Why did I become a chef?
Becoming a chef was all about the thrill for me. Every day is an adventure, stepping into a kitchen gives me a rush of excitement, with a hint of fear!
I grew up watching my mother Fiona, cook. She has always inspired me to use fresh produce in my cooking but most of all cook with my heart. Good honest food, really hearty meals and beauty on the plate is what I am passionate about, that’s what keeps me inspired.
I didn’t really enjoy school and I wanted to get into the workplace and get my hands dirty, and here we are 13 years later. From being a 14-year-old apprentice to now running an amazing venue with incredible support from family and colleagues.
What food excites me?
There is nothing more inspiring than using homegrown, fresh produce in your cooking.
Growing up with a farm in Perth, I was very passionate about using local produce in cooking, it’s a good feeling knowing you can support the people in your town through your cooking.
Being able to tell the story of the produce on the plate, where it comes from, who has grown and nurtured it, why you are using it, it becomes more than just a meal.
